The Greek people are becoming collateral damage in a no-win battle between the Greek government, and international financial institutions pressing for greater austerity. As a condition of extending loans to remain solvent, the bankers are telling Greece to further cut pensions and social programs that are the last lifeline for many Greek citizens. The effects of current levels of austerity can be seen in hospitals operating at just 50% of their prior budgets, and dependence on food banks.
