I am submitting the following complaint to every store that makes me view Nat Enquirer Hate Porn in the checkout line. Feel free to adapt as you see fit.
Please remove “Hate Porn” from the checkout line
National Enquirer is a highly partisan publication that engages in hateful stories demonizing Mrs. Clinton and the half of the nation that voted for her. While it is entirely within their rights to publish and market inflammatory material, it is painful to have to view this “hate porn” in the grocery line.
At least half of your customers and employees are now living in fear of what may happen to them:
- Sick, elderly and low-income Americans fear the loss of life-saving affordable health coverage.
- Over 200 incidents of racial and ethnic hatred have been tracked by the Southern Poverty Law Center in just three days following the election.
- Millions of immigrant families are terrified that they will be ripped apart. Their children – mostly born in the US – are standing with scared parents in one of your checkout lines this very moment, viewing this trash.
- Racial minorities, the disabled and LGBT people are being terrorized by aggressive behaviors from emboldened bullies.
- Women who have suffered traumatizing sexual abuse are feeling re-traumatized by the gleeful abuse of a woman who tried to serve our country in the political arena.
- Mental health crisis and suicide hotlines are overwhelmed by people who are terrified of this incoming administration.
Your store would probably not put Klan, White Supremacist or NeoNazi magazines by your front counter. I can no longer ignore the Alt-Right hate in your checkout line. If you continue to force it on me, I will take my business to stores that do not assault the common decency of my fellow citizens.
One act of resistance a day keeps the despair away.
